Back to Portland Square Hotel the value was too much it is very accessible, the staff need more inservice training not friendly at all. The room extremely small the beds were clean and linen seems okay I always bring my own.
Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on Oct 09 2009 Not as bad as everyone says it is... We loved it! Ok, so this is not a five star hotel by anymeans. However, it does have to offer an AWESOME location w/ great rates and comfy beds and clean bathrooms. I would much rather spend my money seeing Broadway shows or shopping or tours. We had a room w/ two double beds and a private bath and paid 129.00 a night.. Other hotels are around 400.00 or more a night.. Who wants to pay that when you're hardly in your room? I am picky about rooms and would not be saying this if I had a bad experience but don't let this hotel scare you.. It's in a great location and the people at the front desk were friendly. Pay less for hotel and do more in NYC!
Reviewed by: Thomas T from on Jan 15 2009 Horrible, Horrible Crap Hole The room was smelly, ugly, dismal. Nothing like the pictures on the internet. The staff was stupid and rude. Took an hour get the front desk clerk to call her supervisor. Really - Don't do it - for any price. Unless you end up in the East Wing which is newly renovated. It's small, but fairly comfortable. I would recommend to keep looking. The staff is rude, no ammenities and you have to pay $12.00 per hour to use the internet.
Reviewed by: Diana J from on Nov 16 2008 not safe, not clean, rude staff, AVOID THIS HOTEL NOT SAFE - room had a window to a fire escape, window did not close, security gate across the window was broken, dark hallways NOT CLEAN - dingy room, no bedspread, old linens, dirty bathroom, depressing dark brown walls, dark brown rugs, dark brown curtains, very very slow elevator, 50$ deposit to turn on the tv! 25$ deposit to turn on the phone! RUDE STAFF - found out our credit card was billed before we even checked in??, we left after 2 nights and cancelled the remaining reservation but were charged another full day because we didn't give 24 hour notice, desk staff and manager wanted to argue, no attempt to try to serve customers AVOID THIS HOTEL I'd give it zero stars if I could. Hotel Edison is close by, and in the same price range. It is safe and clean. We went there.
Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on Jul 11 2008 DON'T DO IT! my boyfriend and i went up to NYC for the weekend before christmas, he booked the room. said the website looked great but that was about it.and they gave us the wrong room that we reserved. the building looked nice and it was in a GREAT Location, right near times square and broadway, in walking distance of everything. but it would be more worth it to just spend more money.
Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on Dec 25 2007 Dont even go there the location is excellent and the staff helpful and friendly.the hotel room too small and very basic. the decor very unwelcoming and the brown corridors were depressing and made me feel i was staying in a hostel.only stayed 2 nights instead of four.booked via the internet and the photos were misleading.worst hotel i have ever stayed in.not big on cleanliness either.

Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on Nov 29 2007 Awesome value We had a wonderful experience. Our travel plans were delayed by a day at the last minute but the staff eagerly pushed back our reservations by changing our check-in and check-out days--we got our full 6 days.
Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on Oct 27 2007 Unfit for human beings or beasts I made reservations for two rooms in July for September 2007. It seemed to be a great value by New York standards in an outstanding location. The location was truly outstanding but that is where it ends. The reservations were for four nights and we checked out after one night due to the filth and smell. They offered an upgrade but I said that I would not stay there another night for free. We had our infant granddaughter with us and would not put her in the bath tub. I was told I would have to pay for a second night and and I protested and they dropped the price to 1/2 a day. I continued my protest but they charged it to my credit card anyway.
Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on Oct 04 2007 We won't go back there! The place said it had been renovated. I would hate to have seen it before. Rooms smelled; were small, no decor; mold in bathrooms; terrible noise when you turned on faucets in bathroom just to mention a few of our problems with the place.
