Back to Best Western Capitol Skyline Bloody brawl in hallway we experienced a bloody brawl outside our room at 2:30 in the morning - police and paramedics were called - when I mentioned to the desk staff that I felt sorry for the maid staff that had to clean up the mess- she said "Oh don't - they get paid a pretty penny for taking care of rooms like this" Which leads me to believe it happens often at that hotel. Not a safe place to stay - I counted 15 people entering the room at one time - didn't the desk staff see them come in with their bottles & not know what was going on?
Reviewed by: anne from on Jul 27 2009 So much more than we expected Very favorably impressed with Capitol Skyline, especially after reading 100+ reviews on this site. Staff was exceptionally and genuinely friendly and helpful. Someone met us at the car with a welcoming smile, which was especially appreciated after a very long drive. Check-in was quick; rates were as expected; under-building garage was spacious, secure and well worth the additional $20 per night to know that our car was safe. Our room was clean, well-furnished and had a safe, which was a pleasant surprise. All the public areas of the hotel were well-kept, including lobby, gift shop (which was well-stocked with everything one might need or had forgotten to pack), vending area, poolside, and lounge/dining room. Morning breakfast buffet was good, not excellent, but satisfying and got us through several hours of sightseeing. Nationals Stadium, our vacation destination, was a 10-minute walk away. Got to Washington mall area via hotel shuttle; returned to hotel via $10 (with tip) taxi ride. The area was under development, and could well be dangerous at some times of the years or in the wee hours, but it was fine from morning to at least 11pm when we walked back from the ballpark. There were indeed just two locations close-by for eating (McDonald's) or convenience shopping (7-Eleven), but they were both clean and served the purpose. All in all, a wonderful surprise. I would recommend the Capitol Skyline to friends and family without hesitation.
Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on Jun 29 2009 More than You'd Expect This was a very good value! The room was clean, but a bit musty as you'd expect. The people, however, were terrific! The receptionist and the security guard and the fellow in the restaurant were charming, open-hearted, helpful and a real pleasure. It was striking. IT was like staying in a small town with big people.

Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on Dec 19 2007 Almost there The place looks pretty good when you walk-up/walk-in. Clearly they got a decorator to give the lobby a reasonably upscale feel. I'm on a one-night stay in this place paying $260 for the room - it should be nice eh? Well, the room is HUGE, with a Murphy Bed tucked way away to one-side of the room. Why use a Murphy bed when you have a HUGE room??The TV, which is all the way on the other side of the room, is way too small to watch from the bed. The telephone (in a room this size, there should be 2), is beside the TV, instead of beside the bed, so a telephone call when you are in bed is a major inconvenience. There are 3 lamps in the room, only 2 of which CAN be plugged in, and the one by the bed has exposed wiring near the switch so there's not only a possible fire hazard, there's a shock hazard as well. Whatever you do, DO NOT ORDER ROOM SERVICE. The meal was delivered in plastic containers, in a plastic bag by a very surly employee. The steak I ordered was way overdone and was obviously pan fried since they served the frying oil with the steak (as gravy I guess). I'm sure there are worse, but there are much better around. If all you need is a clean room with clean linens, then this hotel will do. If you require some comforts and conveniences, keep on driving.
