Back to Washington Jefferson Hotel 85 degrees and No Air Conditioning - No money back We got into the hotel room at midnight and it was really hot in the room. They didn't have a new window unit or other room. We asked for our money back and IVAN COLLAZO, the so called manager, said NO WAY. Can you believe it? Why should we wait until the next business day to get a cool room? Why do they still have window units? He didn't even apologize! The hotel is in a convenient spot and the receptionist was nice, but this place is a two star hotel at best with incompetant uncaring management. Our two former Presidents would be offended to have their name on a place of such low moral character. Pay the extra $100 to stay in a nice hotel the next time you come to NYC.

I have stayed in hotels all around the world but nowhere have I met such wonderful staff. The moment I arrived, the door was whisked open and that was just the begining of a wonderful visit in this hotel. The rooms are spotless - the bedding so comfortable... bathrooms are small but shower space is great and the size of the bathroom means nothing when you consider the wonderful service extended in every other area. Location is superb... near the subway, Gray Line Tour office, delightful little restaurants and just around the corner from Times Square and the theaters. I highly recommend this hotel..
Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on Oct 30 2007 $400 a night for this??? Never Again I was in NYC on business during the recent United Nations meeting. This place jacked the price up to $400 a night. When I got there I almost cried - a window a/c unit, windows that had gaps big enough for a pigeon to fly through, TINY room, not very clean. I read a review about the sink being really small but I was shocked when I saw it myself. You literally can't even brush your teeth and bend down to spit.
Reviewed by: Kirstin Nelson from on Oct 07 2007 Great location, lousy room The hotel is between 8th and 9th Avenue (closer to 8th) so the location is great in relation to the theatre district. However, as other reviewers have noted, the rooms are VERY small. We got a roll-away bed for my son, so that made it terrible-very cramped. Our bed had a piece of plywood in lieu of box springs-that's just being cheap! (We are used to a hard bed, so we adjusted. Others may not). The room was clean, and the staff was very cooperative. Fortunately we had a room in the back, so noise was not a factor. I heard other guests complain about the noise in the front of the building, so you might want to take that into consideration should you reserve a room here. Also, check on the rates before going to Priceline-this hotel offers special deals which will be less than what is being done on Priceline. The bottom line is that it is OK for couples, but I would not consider ever going here with more than two people.

Reviewed by: Sabine from on Jul 29 2007 excellent !!! the hotel is at human size (that is quite unbelievable in manhattan !), the staff is really professional, helpful and polite. Our room had a king size bed, with shower and toilets for a reasonable price. Despite the noise all around us, we spent good nights in the WJ hotel. We recommand it greatly !!!
Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on Apr 22 2007 Not What I Expected True, the location was really good-close to everything you'd want to see. But the rooms were flat-out uncomfortable. There was barely enough room to move about with the luggage in the room. For the price, this just is not worth it.
Reviewed by: Jason from on Mar 07 2007 Perfect hotel!! I just recently stayed at the Washington Jefferson hotel with my 15 year old daughter over the Christmas Weekend (Saturday 12/23 thru Monday 12/25), for our first Christmas away from home. We are from Boston so it is not far, but we did drive, and the hotel has a garage to accomodate parking your car,
Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on Dec 26 2006 Nicest people in NYC! The staff at this hotel are the nicest people I have ever met in NYC. They were courteous and helpful at all times during my stay. In addition, even though the room was a bit small (as most NYC rooms are), it had absolutely the most comfortable bed I have slept in, in a long time. Cleanliness could not have been better. AND it's in great location. BRAVO!!
