I loved the beach, but not the resort.
This was my first time going to this resort. Upon arrival I had to wait for a room to be ready for approximately one hour. Once in the room it was very hot. I understand that its a beach resort, but sometimes you need to get away from the heat. The staff is friendly and does there best to help you. Mostly everyone spoke enough English that they could understand what was being said. The rooms are not the best. The bed had stained linen, the in room safe had no lock, the bathroom would get soaked when I would use the shower, and the air conditioning barely cooled the room. The majority of this resort is open and there is no air conditioning, which becomes annoying when you just want to relax and enjoy some cool air. The food in World Cafe and the Dominican Restaurant was good, but the rest of the restaurants were mediocre. The food in some of the restaurants took approximately 40 minutes to come out and was not very good. All except two restaurants in the resort have air conditioning so expect to be hot and sometimes bitten my mosquitos while you wait. Some of the shows that they but on at night were funny, but others were all about dancing. The staff is friendly but a lot of them expect a tip even when they do the most minor thing. Room service is unpredictable sometimes you will find that they do a good job and even leave towel art for you, but other times it appeared that they mopped up some of the floor and piled all the dirt in a corner of the room. Most bartenders make every drink differently so sometimes you might get a good drink and other times it might test like melting ice. Overall the hotel is not the great with the exception of the beautiful beach and pool. There are three pools but one is only for guest that pay for an upgraded room. The beach is absolutely beautiful but it is not easy to find a lounge chair after 9:00 a.m. and there is no one taking drink orders at the beach. The pool is very relaxing and refreshing but also very hard to find a lounge chair. During certain nights they have vendors that set up around the main pool area. They sell jewelery, art work, cigars, and other souvenirs. The merchandise is expensive and the sale's men are extremely pushy and don't take no for an answer. The sale's men will approach and almost block your path so that you will go and look at the merchandise they are selling. Some of the sale's men would attempt to place an article of jewelery on you and say that it is free, once they do this it will be really hard to get away from them because they will keep pushing to make a sale. The spa use of the jacuzzi and sauna is not free there is a charge to use it and the jacuzzi is not very clean. There is an internet cafe but there is a charge of $4.00 to use the internet for 15 minutes, which goes by really fast since the internet connection is very slow. If you don't want to walk up 3 floors then I recommend that you get a room in the bottom floor. There are no elevators in the resort. The walls are thin and you will hear people talking, yelling, arguing, or doing other things. There are several activities to do at the beach like snorkeling and kayaking, but there is a short time restriction on the use of the equipment. Overall my experience here was good mostly because I spent the day at the beach or in the pool, but if you want to relax or have children I would not recommend this resort because of the lack of some amenities.

We will never go back
The Entertainment staff was excellent - friendly and talented. However, everyone else was incompetent. We have stayed at Dreams resorts before and always had a great time. There was no beach service. They never had a premium liquor. The bartenders were incredibly slow and rude. Service in the restaurants was very slow and the food was not good with the exception of Portofino.

just ok
nice resort, great swimming pools, nice beach. not enough lounge chairs on the beach. staff needs to learn some english, very hard for them to understand you and vice versa. food was tolerable. service was good but they need to learn some english. maids seem not to have a clue what you were saying except the word HOLA which means hello. Our in room clock didn"t work and and the same for ou coffee pot, asked many times to have them replaced and after a few days the coffee pot got replaced but not thr clock. It was just ok overall cause we were there for the sun and there was plenty. I may go back but it would depend to price. The selection of food was the biggest reason I wouldn't go back.

Goal achieved!
A couple of weeks before I stayed at Casa del Mar, I decided just to leave the country, by myself, to get away from work.

The weather was good.........
First appearance was nice, clean, staff friendly but most don't understand much english, only the american $$. Food was decent but don't pay extra for room service, they can't understand english & so no one came to our room. Our friends received cold nachos, not much to choose from after 11 p.m. My boyfriend enjoyed the Gruper, (was everywhere), must be the fish of the island. Entertainment was a bit repetative, but tolerable.

been there twice love it
I liked all of everthing! But i wish there were a place to get snacks like candy, not the gift shop, somewere near the pool and fuseball tables. Yes there is icecream and popcorn but I think candy would be a great idea.
