Back to Grafton on Sunset (The) Convenient but... The hotel looks a lot nicer in the picture than it does in the middle of the day, that's for sure. If we weren't going to the House of Blues we probably would have stayed elsewhere.
Reviewed by: Kathi from on Jul 18 2008 Recommended The staff were so nice with us. They helped us with everything we needed. I loved the room. Modern and complete. Big tv, dvd combo, cd, radio... Big comfortable beds. I loved the soaps and the green frog too on the bathroom!!!!
Reviewed by: Silvia from on May 26 2007 cool rooms, fun motif, excellent restaurant The small rooms are noisy and nothing special, but get a room by the pool or one of the upstairs suites and you'll feel like you've stepped back in time to cool, old-school Hollywood. The bar Boa is full of eye candy, the restaruant Balboa is great, and the bartender at the Balboa restaurant, McSwain, is one of the best.
Reviewed by: JosephL from on Mar 07 2007 The Worst! It's 12:30am and the music is blasting. I'm in room 316 near the restaurant/lobby. I called down and they won't turn down the volume. The guy at the front desk sent me some earplugs and told me the music is part of the "hotel experience". Well, if the "experience" is about bad service and keeping guests up all night, mission accomplished. There are many better hotels in LA.
Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on May 10 2006 Unbelievably Bad! The staff on hand was very courteous and is there to assist their guest. I wish I could say the same for their Management. We arrived at the hotel at 10am not expecting a room but to let them know we were here, pay and drop off our luggage. We returned at 1:00pm and their manager Carlos said he needed to restart his computer and he would be right with us. Half hour goes by and we can see they are having computer and telephone problems. Then we watched a guest check in and receive a room. An employee asked Carlos if he was going to explain to us why the guest was accommodated but he ignored her. Hour goes by and the same employee tries to accommodate us by calling housekeeping to find an available room. Carlos stops her from assisting us. Finally, after an hour and a half he informs us a room will not be available till 3pm. I remind him we have a formal event and need to leave at that time. He was soooo (notice Im being sarcastic) kind to offer us the gym to prepare for our event. He never apologized or tried to assist the problem; instead he talked down to the staff and reprimanded them for trying to make the situation right. I cant believe not one room was available, on a Saturday, when check out time is 11am. During this time someone is behind us, listening to our conversation and tells him they cannot wait till 3pm for a room and leaves. Once we received a room we patiently waited an hour for the wrong luggage. It got worse from there the toilet and AC system was broken. And to top it off the General Manager walked us aside and tells us he is not happy with us because he lost a reservation because of us. We reminded him that we didnt do anything and the person who lost the reservation was himself. The management staff is incompetent. They state they are there to exceed guest expectations. They didnt come close to even meeting them. The next morning we checked out and the kind girl helping us informed us she put in her two weeks notice. She said she didnt want to work for someone that treated their employees and guest the way they did that day. So they lost an employee, a reservation, my business and I hope yours! DO NOT STAY HERE!
Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on Sep 27 2005 Not worth it... My boyfriend and I stayed at this hotel for only one evening while in L.A. The room we received was small with absolutely no view, unless you wanted to look at the valet parking. The bathroom was tiny and had no ventilation, which I found to be weird. Our room was also exceptionally noisy, it must've been next to a mechanic room or something but it was horrible. I would not stay at this hotel again. I spent two previous nights in a hotel called The Valadon which is only a block down from Sunset, and it was awesome. I do not recommend staying at The Grafton. Save your money for something worthwhile, like souvenirs.
Reviewed by: Malea from on Aug 08 2005 Sunshine, rock stars, and relaxation, oh my! The Grafton on Sunset offered a great break for three stressed-out Midwesterners. The outdoor pool was crystal clear and we spent many hours relaxing in the sunshine on lounges while drinking the complimentary, freshly-brewed iced tea.
Reviewed by: Ashley from on May 24 2005 Nice place but... Too expensive for what it is. The only reason we stayed was because it was so convenient for going to the House of Blues (up the street.)
Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on May 10 2005 They will even find a football game. They will even find out what channel your boyfriend's favorite college football game is on. That's right we were scheduled to arrive the day of a game that my boyfriend refused to miss, I even called ahead and checked with the front desk to make sure that the game in question was even being televised on the west coast. When we met our friends for champagne before we could check in, they made sure that we were settled in before the game came on. They even lined up alternative hot spots to watch the same game.
