This small but distinguished hotel at the upper end of Kurfürstendamm offers modern conveniences such as sound-proof windows in the rooms overlooking the main street. The name 'Avant garde' is actually slightly misleading, as the interior is characterised by classic 19th century features such as high stucco ceilings and tiled antique heaters. But that hardly detracts from the hotel's charm. The Avantgarde is situated between two of western Berlin's most popular icons—Café Kranzler and the ruins of the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church.
