LEONA'S SPIRIT IS DEFINITELY HAPPY
All I can tell you is that Leona must be resting in peace knowing that wonderful service is everywhere and with every employee. The room was always clean, towels were replaced conseirge service was wonderful. The bar is smaller than I thought but Angel the bartender was wonderful and gave a service with a smile. I will always stay at the New York Helmsley next time and every time I visit New York

Location, Location, Location...
We just returned from another fabulous trip to New York City. We had a few of the Empire State Building right outside our window. Staff was nice and helpful. The rooms could use a little updating, but all in all a wonderful spot to rest your head. Walking distance to Times Square.

Excellent stay
Just arrived back from a brillant trip to new york. Stayed in the New York Hemsley hotel which was really good. Location was excellent, just located on 42nd street and 3rd avenue which was just a 5-10 minute walk to 5th avenue and times square.

Extreme makeover needed
This place was probably nice 20 years ago but is in dire need of updating. Even my bedsheets were so thread worn that there were holes all in them! Also you have no control over the temp in your room and I was very uncomfortable. The only redeemable quality about this place is its location for tourists, otherwise, I think it has seen better days.

Better than expected, nice hotel.
Very clean, apparently refurbished room. Lot of towels and those small details in the room that makes a stay enjoyable.

Just right!
We ended a 14 day trip in Europe with a short stay in NYC and the Helmsley was exactly what we needed to end the trip. The service was excellent from the bellman to the front desk. The rooms were emaculate and the lobby was warm and inviting. The location was perfect for the subway or a walk to local sites. I would definitely stay again.

First impressions were not great. Reception staff had a fairly casual and unbothered attitude towards us. The room we had was 'ok' (nothing to get excited over) but had to change it after the first night because of a serious water leak in our bathroom. We managed to get the room changed only after making three calls to reception to get them to come and do something about the problem. The second room was described as a 'complimentary upgrade' but was the same as the first apart from the replacement of the CRT TV with an LCD TV. Also one of the phones did not work, and neither did the TV remote control (not that we used it much). Bar staff had the same attitude as the recepton staff. Phone calls were extremely expensive (minimum charge of $19 (yes, nineteen dollars!) for making even a local call. Locaton of the hotel is the only positive thing I can say about this hotel. I suggest you avoid it.

Need to train the staff more.
Front staffs are impolite, need to be trained for servicing. Room air-con was out of order. I caught a cold.

A Charade
Hotel has definitely seen better days. It has the glossy sheen but lacks in fundamental service. Staff is rude and guests are treated like imposters requiring constant room key proof, id, etc. I also left items in the room and was told they were not found - I am positive they were left there. All in all the impression is of a dying institution trying hard to hold on and not succeeding.
