Great service, best value! Becky
My sister and I loved staying in this hotel. The service was great, the staff was friendly and engaging ...we felt like family. The rooms are large with walk in closets, and nicely appointed ...there was nothing lacking. We stayed one night and left the city for a couple days before returning to complete our visit, so we had the experience of different rooms. Upon our return we were upgraded to a two bedroom suite curtousy of the hotel. I will be coming back to the York for my next visit.

Horrible!!!!
This is the worst hotel I have ever stayed at. I cannot believe that we did not run screaming from the place. Every time we mention the York, my husband and I bust out laughing. It is embarrassing that we ever stayed there. The room was horrible, depressing and every night we could hear everything going on in the room next to us and I mean everything. People were coming and going in and out of the hotel all night long!!! The only good thing about the hotel was the Empire Plush Room and now that is gone. I have never left a note on any board like this, but people should know what they are getting themselves into. This hotel and the neighborhood are scary and the staff at the hotel could care less about your complaints/lack of sleep. People -Beware this place is frightening! Next month we are staying at the Westin St. Francis SF -I am sure it will be clean, quiet and relaxing.

Staying here next time.
I enjoyed my stay here for several reasons. First of all I was having so much fun I stayed a few extra days. I was able to keep my room and they extended a disount rate to us. This place was nice and quiet to. Never heard the room next door, above, below, elevator traffic...ect. Breakfast was adaquate, enough to tide me over to lunch. We were able to walk to Union Square, China Town, several great restaraunts and Grace Cathedral easily. Neighborhoods are nice, well lit and safe around this part of town. The bar was so much fun! It looked kinda dead usually, but we tried it anyways the last night in town. Big mistake! We should have been there every night! The bartended was a blast! The room was clean and modern. Only one down side, our room faced the street. Garbage trucks came by early and usually woke us up around 5am. The street view was not worth the noise. Other than that, I loved my time here and would be glad to stay again.

Great location
The York Hotel is 4 blocks from Union Square and Powell Street, and 5 blocks form Market Street. Can easily walk to all forms of mass transit to go anyplace in the city. The neighborhood is nice and safe. The hotel staff is friendly and helpful. The rooms are fine, free wireless IN that works!

Nice Hotel.
The price was really good compared to the other places offered. I was interesting because it was were some of the movie "Vertigo" was filmed. The room(twin beds room) was small, which was kind of a disappointment, but it was sufficient for all that is was needed for. The weird thing is that the bathroom is almost half the size of the bedroom area. The staff was really nice and helpful for helping us find our way around. Parking was really terrible. But it was close to everything that we walked mostly, which was nicer to get a good experience of the area. They had a nice complimentary breakfast every morning. Overall I really enjoyed my stay there. It's interesting because they have the "Plush Room" so something always seems to be going on at the hotel. But I think next time I'd rather stay somewhere further out of San Francisco, like maybe in Emeryville or something, because it was so compacted there, but I guess that's the city life.

Great Stay
I was looking for an innexpensive yet nice hotel to stay in while San Francisco, and this was certainyl the place. I was a little concerned about only paying $80 a night, but was pleasantly suprised by the hotel. The rooms were nice and perfect size. It even had a walk in closet! The main reason I ended choosing this hotel was the area it was in for the price. Since I relied on public transportation, I wanted to find a hotel in a good area to be out during night, which this hotel was.

An excellent place to stay.
The hotel is wonderful. THe breakfast was continenetal style but had plenty of healthy choices. They accomodate people with disabilities, something rare in older buildings. The room was clean, comfortable and had a handicapped shower. The staff went above and beyond to make sure everything was ok.Also, it is right near Union square and transportation all over San Francisco.

Too many other place to stay in San Francisco
If a continental breakfast is coffee and toast served on paper products you will love this hotel. Staff is unfriendly, and the location isn't the best. The carpet and flooring isn't clean.

Not a chain!
We had the Vertigo Room, which we loved. The room was comfortable, spacious, and unique. We didn't feel like we were staying at a chain hotel---it has a special connection to San Francisco. We had drinks in the lobby in the evening, which was nice. We've seen a show at the Plush Room in previous years, which was also wonderful! Our friends and I recommend the York.

York Hotel
A very chic boutique lobby greets visitors when they check-in. Room was on the 3rd floor and was rather smaller than I had anticipated (containing two single beds). Almost everything else about the accommodation was fine (being at the rear of the hotel meant no noise from busy Sutter Street). The one drawback to the guest bedrooms is that the walls separating are very, very thin! I heard people in the next room snoring (amongst other things!).
