It was HORRIBLE!
I came into Chicago highly anticipating my stay at the Hilton Chicago. Most of the reviews I read were positive and for the money that I was paying, I expected something nice. Boy was I wrong.

We had a great time
We had two teen age girls with us and this hotel had two bathrooms in the room, one for us and one for the girls it was very clean and very comforting. When I go to Chicago I will be staying here again.

Huge Old Hotel - Big Disappointment
Hotel restaurant was closed down. Drinks in the lobby bar were way too overpriced. Room was only tended to 1 night out of our 5 night stay. Food trays were on the hallway floors for 3 days-were all the maids on strike?CNN on 24hrs.in elevator TV's-really annoying! Concierge couldn't tell us anything about where to shop! She gave us an expired Macy's coupon!

I am too busy to help you!
I normally enjoy a visit to Chicago. The room was spacious and had two bathrooms. Close to the Chicago Museum, a good walk to main shopping. The concierge managed to put a damper on our trip. After waiting in line to ask him for a recommendation for a place to eat, he told us that "I am very busy, and I don't have the time to help you!"

Great 35th Aniversary Experience
It was the greatest hotel we ever stayed in. The staff was great to us and the food was great especially the breakfast buffet. It was close to everything and we had a great view overlooking Grant Park, Lakeshore Dr. and Lake Michigan and the staff made it all happen when I ask for an upgrade at no extra cost. We can't wait to go back. Maybe Christmas!

Practices OVERBOOKING, avoid at all costs!
Had confirmed reservations, 2 rooms 3 nights and 1 room 2 nights, all King standard rooms. Arrived Wed evening to find out we had no rooms and none were available. After 2 hours of patient waiting Mgmt found 1 double room which we took and cramed 5 people into with the assurance out rsvd rms would be available between 12-2 next day. Next day, same song, made us give up our rm from night b4 by 12 but no rooms available while we waited. Attended Bears game and got call at 6pm that rms were ready. After game, should have had 3 rms, mgmt only had 2 booked, both doubles not king and they couldn't find booking for 3rd room, 2 hours later found a "powder room" no real beds just sofa beds for our 3rd room. family travel with parents and in-laws both set older than 70 yrs of age. Mgmt only reply was sorry we messed up. Many pilots and flight attendents in line while all this was going on each night and they apparently got rooms, must have been Hilton Honors folks. We spent many hours, about 10 hours total, in lobby waiting to rcv the rooms we had been promised but was never provided anything related to service or truthful information. My son was staying in hotel so we really didn't want to go elsewhere due to conveinence factor. Total lack of communication by all members or onsite mgmt at any time. My entire party was completely civil the first night but I did lose it when the same scenario repeated the next night. No REAL help from anyone related to Hilton just the same sorry with the blank look at the computer screen. Hilton mgmt actually admitted that this happens all the time due to their practice of overbooking. Hilton rotates their mgmt staff so you will never meet the same mgr during your stay. Rooms were so-so nothing special, the best thing about the hotel was Kitty O'learys bar/resturant onsite. Total worthless customer service!!! I've been traveling nationally for 30 years and never have I been treated as badly as this hotel, ever! Avoid this place, there are many hotels available in the same area at same rate which I guarantee treat their guests like human beings and have equivilent accomodations.

inconsiderate mean staff
my friends one and only wedding night honeymoon was ruined by Hilton hotels in Chicago"magnificent mile" and O'hare. they arrived from a limo on their wedding apparel just to find out in the front desk of Hilton that their paid reservation from a reward was cancelled because their other guests extended their stay. They were told evrything's taken care off they will be transfered to Hilton O'hare they provided 60$ for taxi and when they got there had to wait in line to go to the front desk till 11:45pm while workers are just wasting their time talking on the phone and walking back and forth, the time they went to the front desk their reward was not honored they took it and told them they will hold it till morning. they were ask for credit card number but they didn't have so they give the debit number instead, in the morning they found out they've been charged $289+ $50 for using debit. That's how they treated newlyweds. Would you like your friend or family treated this way on thier wedding? This people just want's your money.

Would not return
This hotel is very grand and historic. During our stay we learned that all of the United States Presidents from Eisenhouer to the current Bush have stayed here. It is in a prime downtown location and would seem like the best place to stay. However, don't be fooled by what the hotel "seems" to be. Just to part your car for one night here it is $41. We had two issues with our parking ticket. When we first checked in they didn't validate that we had paid our parking ticket already. So later in the evening when we were on our way to a concert and were running late, we were unable to leave the garage because our ticket "wasn't paid." So we had to wait for an attendent to come out and told him our story. He took down our information and said we would need to tell the front desk and get our new ticket validated. We got that problem fixed later, but we were hungry and couldn't afford the outrageous prices of the hotel food, so we decided to go out and get bite to eat. Upon trying to exit the garage, the machine that reads the ticket didn't give our ticket back. So after returning later to the hotel with our food, I waited 30 minutes to again tell them my issue with the parking ticket and get the new one validated. I was just one hassle after another here. For a room with no view at all, for one night, it came to $306. The hotel food is extremely outrageously priced. At one point I was hungry and went looking for a candy vending machine. There weren't any. I guess they expect the guests to order their candy bars from the room service for $3.25 each. Sorry, I refuse to pay that much for one candy bar.
