Back to Mena House Oberoi Hotel WOULD RECOMMEND TO ANYBODY! MENA HOUSE WAS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! WE HAD AN AWESOME VIEW OF THE PYRAMIDS FROM OUR ROOM. IT WAS SO SURREAL TO WAKE UP AND LOOK OUT THE WINDOW AND SAY, "OH, THERE ARE THE PYRAMIDS!" SERVICE AND FOOD WAS EXCELLENT. WE ENJOYED EVERY MOMENT THERE.
Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on Jan 26 2008 Where oh where? We had to make our own arrangements to arrive in Cairo to meet our OAT group. That is an experience in itself. After a long, expensive cab ride we arrived. The desk staff was very friendly, knew we were expected and showed us to our room promptly. It was in the newer section, no pyramid view. Did I mention that our luggage did not arrive with us. Problems began when I tried to contact our tour guide. The phone operator would not connect me with her room, the front desk acted as tho' she didn't exist. It took us 3 hours to find her and then only because the manager of one of the restaurants made a few inquiries and we finally met our group.
Reviewed by: NANCY H from on Jan 16 2008 What a treat! Don't understand where all the poor reviews come from. We just returned from Egypt and had a grand time at the Mena House. It's palatial, it was very clean, the garden and pool are huge and verdant, service was outstanding, friendly and unobtrusive. The bed and furnishings were so cozy, we regretted having to go out sightseeing. The hotel has maintained the comforts that British travellers of another era expected. The bathroom was a mavel, Towels and bathrobes were fluffy and clean. And yes, there was bug spray, but we thought that cute and practical. This is the South, folks. If you get a chance to stay there, cheek by jowl with the Pyramids, count yourself lucky.
Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on Jan 05 2008 Stay in the Palace If you stay here, I suggest staying in the palace side of the hotel. It was orriginally built for the opening of the Suez Canal for all the worlds dignitaries. While the rooms are older than then new side of the hotel, they offer the best views of the Pyramids.
Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on Dec 21 2007 I LOVE IT THERE! I love the food. Very healthy also. They were very accomdating if you have any complaint. Location wonderful. Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on Jul 31 2007 The view from the balcony My son and I had an excellent experience at the Mena House Hotel. The only glitch was being given a kingbed room. We were immediately given a different room with a comparable view of the pyramids.
Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on Jul 17 2007 Amazing location Seeing the pyramids outside our restaurant window while dining is only one of the incredible experiences of staying at this location. The history of this beautiful location is part of its mystery. There are new room and older ones. The older ones are not as elegant but still satisfactory. Amazing pool. And, downtown Cairo is only a short, inexpensive taxi ride away. It was a dream.
Reviewed by: Kathleen from on May 23 2007 HUGE dissapointment My husband and I wanted to splurge on luxury. Instead we received a dirty room (paint peeling, can of Raid in Bathroom, grime in corners, ratty bedspread, rug and furniture), terrible service, and a severe case of 'pharaohÂ’s revenge' despite only purchasing food and drinks from the resort. The view that we paid extra for could only be seen from one corner of our balcony. However, it far surpassed the rooms on the other side of the hotel which bordered a smelly, noisy, and dirty street.
