Back to Omni Shoreham Hotel Great Place to Getaway My husband, son and Istayed for 3 days and enjoyed every minute. We got free internet access and free morning paper and beverages brought to our door by signing up to the free loyalty program. We used the bed and breakfast package which included free breakfast for each mornign with the price of our room. Breakfast was from 6:30 to 11:30 and was a great buffet. The pool was clean and inviting especially after a long hot day on the DC tours, a definite must.
Reviewed by: Marie from on Aug 19 2009 Excellent Choice! My husband stayed at the Omni a few years back and suggested that we stay there on our recent visit with our 5 year old son. We could not have been happier. It's not a cookie cutter modern hotel--it's 80+ years old and has hosted many presidents and famous entertainers. When you're there you get the feeling you are stepping back in time. The furnishings are beautiful and everything looked recently remodeled. My son was most impressed with the new HD television and the little mini fridge. My husband had to work during our trip so my son and I spent lots of time at the pool and it couldn't have been nicer, especially for a child who does not swim well yet. The pool is huge and it's all only 3 feet deep. The landscaping around it is gorgeous and it felt like I was at a luxurious resort. The staff at the hotel were extremely friendly and helpful. I honestly could have stayed there forever! It seemed like every guest there was just relaxed and in a great mood--I think that says a lot for a hotel. As far as the location, it's in a very safe neighborhood and only a 3-5 minute walk to the metro and numerous restaurants, many with outdoor eating areas. I would highly suggest the restaurant across the street called the Open Diner, I believe. They had great food, a huge menu, and it was at a reasonable price--the place stayed packed with locals and tourists. There is also a McDonalds across the street if you prefert. It's an easy ride to downtown on the metro or on weekends we drove our car and easily found accessible parking. You should definitely use the metro on weekdays though--it's very safe and everyone uses it (for those of you who are hesitant.) Anyway, we look forward to visiting DC next year and from now on will stay at the Omni Shoreham.
Reviewed by: April from on Jul 23 2009 Fantastic location This hotel is in a very nice convenient location. It's near the a metro stop and is walking distance to a lot of restaurants. The neighborhood is very nice and safe. I'd highly recommend this location if you're visiting DC.
Reviewed by: caw from on Jul 20 2009 very nice stay I was there for a conference. The hotel is very lovely, grand lobby. The room was well appointed, a good size and clean, bed comfortable, small fridge in the cabinet (I always go to a local market and get yogurt etc for my own breakfast), wireless access, lots of places to plug in, HD TV. Ordered from room service. The food was quite good and the service timely and gracious. When I first got to my room, there was a problem with the keycard. I called the front desk from a phone in the hallway and someone came right up, was very helpful and pleasant. There were lots of restaurants within a block or two, and a metro station a block away. Walked a mile or so down Connecticut Ave with lots of shops and restaurants along the way. Would look forward to staying there again.
Reviewed by: New Hampshire fan from on Oct 05 2008 Definitely A 4 Star Hotel!!! The Omni is in a great location on Calvert St. It has a valet, etc.-very nice people. The staff and the concierge were extremely helpful and very polite. The concierge can help with tours, etc. (The trolley tour is overrated. Either check out the Metro -subway-or do the double-decker bus.) The Omni is an older hotel, but the lobby is emaculate. There are fresh flowers and the floors are waxed til they shine. The room we were in had a piece of baseboard missing...but, the flat screen tv, the oh so very comfy beds and the spacious bathroom made up for that in no time. We didn't eat at the hotel because there is a diner diagonal to the hotel called the Open City Diner. They had great food and service. If you continue down the side of the diner, the metro-subway- entrance is right there. The National Zoo is located aways from the hotel....Just because the stop is called Woodley Park/Zoo doesn't mean the zoo is close. The walk to the zoo is long-you might try to take the bus...inside the zoo is great...except for the walk...you are on an incline...in the heat, it was awful. There are 'misters' which definitely help :), and a lot of the animals were inside. Overall, the zoo was good. Make sure that you call the Smithsonian museums for their closing times...they close at 5:30 but we were told that summer hours were 7:30.....not. Oh well. Make sure to wear cool clothes!!! Again, the Omni was fantastic, would definitely do it again...oh yah, didn't see one bug :). Oh, and there were a lot of people there...obviously it is popular. BEFORE YOU GO, CHECK OUT DC BOOKS IN YOUR LOCAL LIBRARY-THERE'S A LOT TO SEE IN DC :).
Reviewed by: Open City LUVEr from on Aug 02 2008 Horrible Experience The place was so dirty. The room wasn't cleaned. It smelled so bad. The front desk staff was very rude and didn't seem to care about our problems with the room. I would never stay at an Omni again. It wasn't a 4 star hotel, more like 2 star at best.
Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on Jul 08 2008 Noisy Cooling system, Bad front desk The cooling system in our room was extremely noisy and prevented us from getting a good night's sleep. Bathroom was VERY small. Arrived early (11:00am) and did not get into our room until 5:30pm. Front desk would promise to contact us about various things we asked about and never got back to us. Management was unwilling to offer anything for the inconvenience
Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on May 23 2008 Inconsistent-read before you book My husband and I were excited to stay at the Omni Shoreham Hotel on a recent trip to D.C. We had heard good things about it and the website/reviews looked fabulous. However, upon arriving to our room we realized the bed was covered with only a sheet and a thin blanket (which, once we looked closer, we realized was stained). After speaking with housekeeping and an additional hotel employee, they told us the hotel was being renovated and the bedspreads had not arrived yet! I am curious as to why they did not keep the old bedspreads until the new ones had arrived, or why we were not informed of this fact when making our reservation. We asked for a blanket to make up for the comforter and received a thin blanket that was covered with small pieces of hair. Needless to say, my husband made reservations at another hotel for the rest of our stay. When we told the staff of our intentions to move to another hotel, they replied with an ambivalent "ok". I would definitely call and ask about the renovations before making a reservation with them- we were sorely disappointed with our experience.

Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on Sep 09 2007 Dont plan on sleeping..... First off, let me say that we only had two problems. One was with the toilet in our room. It was a little leaky, but they did fix it. Also we were in room 746 and were told that they were the (newly renovated) rooms. It was beautiful. The only other BIG problem I had was with the noise. There is a HUGE gap inbetween the floor and door of the hallway into room entrance. EVERY TIME someone would CLOSE there door we would hear it, every time a walking/talking/laughing/anything audible person/persons would walk by WE WOULD HEAR IT!!! They deffinately need to do something about this!! Everyone COMPLAINED about it. We were on our honeymoon, and we would have liked to enjoy sleeping. (a little Bit)
