Opened in 1984, this museum (housed in a beautifully restored Spanish and Portuguese synagogue) charts and celebrates the history of Manchester's large Jewish community, from the 1740s to the present day. Life throughout the period is documented by a constantly changing programme of exhibitions, demonstrations, talks and music. The upstairs gallery houses a variety of historical displays including photographs, documents and even telephone handsets with recorded memories from local inhabitants. Other regular events include guided Heritage Trail walks around the city's old Jewish quarter.disabled access.
