This church was declared a national monument because of its unquestionable historical and artistic merits. It is composed of a rectangle with three naves and is an important example of Latin American Baroque in this country. It houses certain valuable colonial altarpieces. In this church, in 1818, Caracas native son Simon Bolivar received the title of Liberator, which accompanies his memory to the present day.
