Without a doubt one of the finest Italian restaurants in San Juan, La Piccola Fontana features impeccable, European-style service in a setting that's as formal as its host hotel. The décor at La Piccola Fontana consists of beautiful Italian ornaments and fabulous furnishings. The atmosphere is truly elegant and upscale, and is supported by impeccable service. Most clients are guests of El San Juan Hotel & Casino or savvy locals. The menu features classic Italian dishes including many versions of pasta, the traditional risotto, lamb, and vitello (veal) as well. There is a decadent selection of desserts, too.

Worst and Most Expsensive Italian
My wife and I were on a vacation and we were enjoying the local food daily but we wanted a change so we were recommended to try La Piccola Fontana in the pretty El San Juan Hotel. The service was very good and the place was attractive. However, the food was not only horrible, but it was extremely expensive (and we are from NYC - meaning even high end places don't often charge $30 for pasta). My wife had a garden salad which was standard ($10) and I had an arugula salad($15) which had greens that looked several days old and wilted, almost rotten. I'm shocked how they could serve something looking like that. For entree my wife ordered baked ziti ($27!!!)and it was not even at par with Chef Boyardee. It was complete mush and the sauce tasted like ketchup. I ordered a special, which was pasta with calamari(squid) and the squid was like rubber. That dish ran $30. What really surprised me was that this place was packed, but I guess people who are not adventurous to try the local cuisine resort to a place like Fontana. Again, the service was very good and the restauant itself is well done and attractive. But how they charge what they do for such awful, awful food is a travesty in my opinion.
