Back to Courtyard San Juan Marriott The price structured spoiled the fun. I just left there today and I am still at the airport waiting for a connecting fligt .. They charge a fee for the room. If you stay in the room or go from the room to the street, you are fine. If you use the amenities, like the pool, casino, the bar, that falls under "resorts". There a seperate fee for the resort. If you park your car in the hotel parking garage there a fee for that . You learn about that parking fee when you check out. I would prefer to know about the fees in advance
Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on Aug 16 2009 Great Hotel. Only One Exception.... Good Location, great staff, rooms are clean. It's what you expect from Marriott. Staff was very professional and helpful. Definitely would stay there again. The only exception was the restaurant. Very over-priced. 17 dollars per person for breakfast. Served as a continential breakfast. Also, ordered seafood dishes for dinner, in both dishes, the seafood was over-cooked, the waiter dropped off the food and disappeared. When I complained to the dining room manager, all he did was bring us a free desert, which tasted like a protein bar. I recommend that you eat outside hotel. Unless you like overcooked and overpriced meals.

Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on Sep 24 2007 Good "budget" place to stay We paid ~$140 a day here. Compared to first-class hotels like the Ritz, this is not great- the water sometimes take a lil bit to heat up, the bathroom is small, the TV is "not a plasma", and there isn't much of a view per se.
Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on Aug 29 2006 Worst Hotel Ever I hated this hotel. We expected this hotel not to be a three star hotel, however we were expecting a little more than what we got. We got there in time for check-in and they did not have our room ready. After waiting 3 hours we finally got a room. However the room was missing towels, no carpets on the floor and it looked a little musty. Our tub and sink broke down. Outside a lot of construction was going on. The service was horrible especially the front desk people. The front desk was not at all helpful. Their lack of manners and rude behavior ruined our experience. I would not recommend anyone staying in this hotel. Be warned!
Reviewed by: Deepa from on Aug 12 2005 Excellcior The place was under construction and we were moved from one floor to another and the accomodations that we were supposed to have with the two beds after being told that it would be available the next day we were put into a room with very poor lighting...we did not complaint since we were out every day and basically used the hotel for sleeping. they do not have parking and had to pay for parking $84.00 for the week

Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on Jun 26 2005 Location, location, location! The location of the Excelsior alone is worth the price. The room was fine. If you plan on spending a lot of time in your hotel, maybe you shouldn't go to an amazing city like San Juan. The hotel was not immaculate, but the service was good and the location and price are superb. If you have ever been in a metropolitan city, you will not find this neighborhood to be objectionable in the least bit. I suggest renting a car at the airport and taking advantage of the friendly and knowledgeable front desk staff for planning your outings. The room could have used some updating and a balcony, but I am sure they will be working on that with the contruction (and raising the price). I couildn't care less about the hotel pool when I am on an island, but it did look somewhat small. All in all, I am very pleased with my decision to stay at the Excelsior and will go again in the future.
Reviewed by: StephenL from on Jun 13 2005 Puerto Rico = Paradise Before my husband and I left for Puerto Rico I read all of the reviews for this hotel, needless to say, I was really nervous. People were saying Ghetto and that it was super unclean. But, we had a really good experience here. It wasn't like the Hilton or anything. And it for sure doesn't look like the pictures that they show to represent the hotel. (A bit misleading if you ask me) But the room was clean and the service was great. The hotel is NOT in the Ghetto, trust me we got lost in the Ghetto. Puerto Rico is super awesome, the pina colodas are awesome, Viego San Juan is awesome and Hotel Excelsior was what we expected and probably more. If you can handle not being in a five star hotel you'll do fine. Just remember that construction is going on and the pool is not a pool (maybe a bath tub). Its close to the ocean, the rainforest and tons of super cool beaches that are not over crowded and good shopping in Viejo San Juan. Just remember to pack lots of sunscreen and cool clothes when we were there it was in the 90s everyday.
