Perched over the Pacific Ocean in Santa Monica, "The Pier" feels more like a carnival than a place to shop. Cirque du Soleil pitches their tent on the beach here annually, and there are concerts and dances on the weekends in the summer. In addition to the many restaurants and souvenir stands, there is a full-service amusement park with a roller coaster, ferris wheel, merry-go-round and arcade. The pier's end provides one of the best sunset views in Los Angeles County.

Santa Monica Pier Twilight Dance Series

One of the most popular free events and deservedly so in Los Angeles is this series of dance concerts featuring some impressive musical acts, most of which are quite well-known. Recently, it has attracted up to 10,000 people on a single night. Every Thursday in July and August for the past 15 years, acts like Jose Feliciano, Beausoleil, Ozomatli and anyone else who can inspire us to move our feet has performed on the pier.
Santa Monica Drive-in At The Pier

Santa Monica Pier is host to the annual summer "drive-in" movie event. All Santa Monica Visitor Centers provide tickets for the event, which is free but does require tickets. For details on parking, screening information, donations and more, please check the website. Don't forget to make a donation to the Arts Fighting Cancer to raise funds for cancer patients.
