The Western Reserve Historical Society was founded in 1867 with a mission to document and preserve the history of Cleveland and the Western Reserve. The society's museums and library house more than 5 million books, photographs, manuscripts and rolls of microfilm, and depict a microcosm of early 20th-century Cleveland. The elegant 1911 Hay-McKinney mansion has been preserved intact, while the Bingham-Hanna mansion has been converted into galleries. The Chisolm Halle Costume Wing features historic clothing designs and clothes that date from the late 1700s to the present day.
