Back to El San Juan Hotel & Casino Great Place, Typical Caribean Service Pros: The Hotel facility is fantastic. The loby is beautiful. The pool(s) are perfect. The casino is as nice as any other hotel in the area (maybe only a notch below the Ritz, and no where near as crowded). The beach was great. The crowd was a good mix of visitors and locals, young and not-as-young.
Reviewed by: dustin from on Nov 22 2009 What a vacation! We stayed at the hotel for 5 nights, and it was the best vacation we ever had.The staff was very friendly and helpful, they even recommended the places to visit and how to get there. We definitely would go back and stay at the same hotel. The location is excellent.
Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on Oct 24 2009 Dirty and Overpriced The lobby and casino are beautiful however the rooms are filty. Walking down the hallway to our room there was dirty and pieces of paper all over the carpet. Then when we walked into our room it looked like a jail cell. Very blank and the floors were gross. Plus the bathroom door didn't close. There are hidden fees for everything! The walls are paper thin I could people having a conversation in the room next to us. We wouldn't sleep in a dirty room so we left within an hour of checking in. I would definatly never come back to this hotel. It disappointing to see a Waldorf Astoria in this condition!
Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on Jul 14 2009 Must read review!! Sadly I am writing this review from my room after 3 nights at the hotel. I have only slept one. This review serves as a warning, do not stay at this hotel. Pounding music from the club until 4 or 5am, paper thin walls and the Garden Lennai, 3rd floor, should be not be occupied by guests who want to relax. Not a single good view from any room. 6 months of waiting for this vacation only to subject my family to this environment. Today 8 motor cycle police came running into the hotel looking for a robbery suspect. Not what I wanted my kids to see but perhaps a lesson on what this hotel attracts. Very over priced, $22.00 for two drinks, few in-room amenities and you have to eat off premises to avoid a $150-200 bill.

Reviewed by: iris from on Jul 01 2009 overpriced & rotten service... the staff at the el san juan are rude, i have been going for the last five years, their rooms are updated and chic, but need to be cleaned better, the pool area is what makes this hotel, even though the cushions on the chair need a good clean, with the recent updates of the hotel, they need an update with their custom service. Don't bother unless you liked overpriced hotels, with bad service
Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on Jun 24 2009 THIS HOTEL SUCKS! DONT TRUST THE WEBSITE! I was really looking forward to staying at this hotel but it absolutely sucks. The only nice thing was the pool and grounds but that it is. They overcharged me for my room and I had to pay $20 in the business office to print the proof just to show them they had overcharged me. None of the restaurants in the hotel are opened for breakfast or lunch so half the time we went to chilis across the street because there wasnt much else. Except Mi Casitas, 2 blocks down where the food was horrible and only one chef working. The garden lanais rooms are horrible and creepy..we got moved to the main tower. The mojitos were $13, and at the pool a bottle of corona that would normally cost $3-$4 was $8.50. The service was non-existent...the furniture (although nice) needed cleaning. There was a prom going on and it was very noisy at night...we woke up at 5am to hear noisy teenages in the hall. First visit to el san juan and puerto rico and probably my last.
Reviewed by: Renee from on Jun 23 2009 will definitely go back The hotel was wonderful, clean and airy, the rooms were the exactly like the pictures. There was some power outages at times, but what you expect, its the west indies. We did not eat at the hotel, but outside food was very tasty. Only problem, the hotel had a prom every night, however, the kids were not wild at all.
Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on Jun 23 2009 Absolutely great!!!! I would highly recommend. My husband and I stayed at this hotel back in Nov 08 for the 2nd time and we had a GREAT time. The only complaint I have is that the game room is not very operable. They absolutely have to upgrade the game room. Other than that I have 0 complaints. I arrived in Puerto Rico on October 31 and went straight to my family. However since my husband decided to join us I wanted to get away and spend some good quality time in a different environment other than my family. Reservations were made thru hotels.com and off we went. We arrived on Nov 1 and departed on the 3rd. Check in was great. The Lobby is fabulous with all sorts of contemporary colors and design and a fish tank full of beautiful fishes. The staff were great. We had room service the 1st night and to my surprise they were there too early "if u know what I mean". The room was extremely clean and the bathroom very spacious. They have a nice slide pool for kids that my daughter spent almost all day in. In the meantime, my husband and I decided to play pool volleyball with some people that were already playing. Had a great time. In addition, there's a salt pool and a jacuzzi. NICE!!!! They have hammocks overseeing the beach. The staff at the beach brought me an umbrella with no questions asked and he was very friendly. I don't know how harder he could have worked for me.....Night LIFE....At the time we went there was a wedding and basically my husband and I sat there and watched them make a full of themselves. The music was loud but what do you expect is night life...I love loud music anyway. But when it was time to sleep we didn't hear a thing. The biggest problem I encountered was with hotels.com. They didn't charge my credit card at the time I made the reservation and several months later they're asking me to pay. Oh well!! can't have everything.
Reviewed by: Marlene from on Jun 03 2009 will not go back The lobby is nice but at night very noisy. The whole time my daughter and I were there they had a prom or a wedding with reserve signs on tables for the prom or wedding guests. It seems to me that their concerns are more concentrated on the prom and wedding people than on their other guests. The resturants are nice but over-priced and room service prices are ridiculous. The rooms are nice but nothing to get excited about. If my travel agent had not picked this hotel it would definately not have been my first or second choice!
