Productions in the Josefstadt (as this theater is fondly referred to by its audiences) are mostly traditional classics by Austrian composers of the late 19th Century and the early 20th. In the event of a slip in the program, the mostly conservative and older audience are quick to express their anger and disappointment, and it has even been the case that the rows in the audience empty during the performance. Nevertheless, this is a very charming stage with a bordeaux-red and gold trimmed decor for the main salon, in which as if by magic, a magnificent chandelier is raised to full height before each performance.
