Interesting open space situated between the apse of San Telmo church, Monte Urgull and Calle 31 de Agosto, designed by Luis Peña Ganchegui in 1970. In the past, this site was occupied by what was once a Jesuit monastery. Near the entrance to the plaza and off to one side, you will find one of the few buildings to have survived the 1813 fire that razed San Sebastián to the ground as a result of the attack by Anglo-Portugese troops against French occupation. Apart from the plaza's general attractiveness, it is also a site for various sporting and cultural events, among which are the championships and exhibitions of traditional Basque sports. Then there is the San Sebastián-Donostia Jazz Festival, which uses this plaza as one of its main venues each year.NYC Best Hotel Deals: 50% Savings In New York!
