This is generally considered one of the top beaches in the Los Angeles area. Hermosa is quite similar to its neighbor Manhattan Beach, though it has the added bonus of pedestrian-only public spaces teeming with shops, restaurants and people. One of the world's beach sports Meccas—this is the site of both beach volleyball's Hermosa Beach Open at the end of August and surfing's International Surf Festival also in August. Just be advised that summer crowds can be frighteningly large.
