Manhattan Beach is one of the best beaches around due to its proximity to shops and restaurants. The constant entertainment here on weekends comes in many forms, most notably as volleyball and surfing tournaments. This stretch of sand can claim to be both the inspiration and hangout of the Beach Boys in their early days, as well as the birthplace of beach volleyball. The oldest beach volleyball tournament in the world—the Manhattan Beach Open, is held here annually in late July. Limited free parking, metered parking and parking lots are available.
