Barcelona's tribute to one of its adopted sons, this fabulous collection is displayed in three adjoining medieval palaces. Picasso was born in Malaga but really started his long artistic career here. You can see all of his most important early works, including engravings, lithographs and pottery. The most famous pieces on show are his Harlequin, a potrait of one of his wives, Jacqueline, and the Las Meninas series. Regular temporary exhibitions focus on different aspects of the artist's activities, for example, his research on landscapes or his foray into theater design. In addition, there are some examples of work by artists from the avant-garde movement.

Picasso-Erotic Prints
Mar 1st, 2009 to Nov 30th, 2009
Picasso's contribution to the world of art is immense. In a special exhibit, 'Picasso-Erotic Prints' some of the artists rare and queer prints made during 1964 and 1970 will be displayed at the Museu Picasso. The prints mainly deal with Picasso's take on eroticism and his interpretations on the subject. Also featured will be a few prints from the 19th century Japanese art from which the artist is presumably influenced. Check the website for the exact schedule.

Picasso's Blue Period
Jul 28th, 2009 to Dec 31st, 2010
Tangled up in blue! During the first half of the first decade of the 20th century, Picasso's work underwent considerable change. Subject matter and style both shifted, tonally and otherwise. This era came to be known, quite famously, as the artist's "blue period." Visit this exhibit and see why this just may be one of Picasso's most well-received and even beloved series of works.

Picasso's Ingenuity
Jul 28th, 2009 to Dec 31st, 2010

A fitting tribute to this artist is the display of his work at the Museu Picasso which includes paintings from some of his most important collections. A visit to Barcelona is incomplete without a visit to this treasure trove.
