Queenstown was the colonial name for Cobh, a port of great historical importance. This multimedia exhibition offers the visitor an opportunity to gain some dramatic insights into this fascinating history. From 1845-1960 over 2.5 million adults and children emigrated from Ireland via Cobh on "coffin ships", early steamers and finally the great ocean liners. The first convict ships to leave these shores did so, from Cobh, in 1791 bound for Australia. The exhibition enables one to discover what life was like on the ships, and the hardships that were endured. It also investigates the town's connections with the Lusitania and the Titanic - Cobh being the latter's last port of call.
