The south-west coast of Victoria offers one of the most spectacular drives in the world. Winding roads, plunging cliffs, eucalypt studded hillsides, primeval rainforests, wind-battered oceans and tales of piracy and shipwreck all feature in a drive along the famed Great Ocean Road. Built between 1918 and 1932 by about 3,000 ex-servicemen; the project was dedicated to those who died in World War I. The road stretches from Anglesea to Warrnambool and includes many highlights such as the much photographed Twelve Apostles, seaside villages and the magnificent Otway Ranges and Port Campbell National Park.

AWESOME!
There was no way my boyfriend and I were going to stay in NYC for winter - so we headed to Australia instead. We landed in Melbourne and went straight down the GOR. It was the coolest road trip! We stopped in Geelong - a cute town with a nice waterfront - but the best bit was staying at the gorgeous Haymarket Boutique Hotel (www.haymarkethotel.com.au) and eating yummy pizza at Hey Leroy (www.heyleroy.com.au) We stopped at Torquay - where we bought heaps of surf clothes (so many hot guys and girls!!!) and visited little cafes/shops until we got to Lorne - which was the best!! Great vibe in the cafes/street - everyone was chilled and it had a great beach where we spent most of our days - reading books and eating fish 'n' chips!! We continued driving to the 12 apostles which was breathtaking - but the further you go - the towns do get 'quieter' - which is fine - but not too many young people and less to do. I did love the Otways though - very lush and green and the Otway Fly was heaps of fun!! Hope all this info helps other travellers!!
