The Bòrsari Gateway, opened up in what Roman times was called the Via Postumia, the principal entry point into the city. However, being so richly and beautifully decorated, it is also of great aesthetic value. The gateway was built in the middle of the 1st Century CE., and then restored by Gallieno in 265. In Medieval times it was re-named the San Zeno gateway, and finally it took its name from the bursarii, or tax-collectors who collected taxes for the bishop. All that remains today of the Roman gateway is the external frontage in white Veronese stone, with two arches on two levels, containing six windows each - all of which are framed with elegant decorations.NYC Best Hotel Deals: 50% Savings In New York!
