For many years (and perhaps even now) the cafe at the Mandarin Hotel served a dish of Hainanese chicken rice that was considered to be the standard in Singapore. At S$18 or so the price is multiple of what you can get at your neighborhood place. But I 30 years later I still go to Chatterbox from time to time to have it.
