Fine and performing arts are the focus of the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, which includes art galleries, a movie theater, a theater for live performances and a beautifully landscaped garden with striking fountains. Take time to visit the one dedicated to Martin Luther King, Jr., that invites strollers to walk behind a waterfall as they contemplate quotations from both him and other assassinated leaders of the Civil Rights movement. Music and theater groups perform among the five and one-half acres of rolling gardens during lunch from May through September. Concurrent with exhibits are informative lectures and seminars, poetry workshops and resident artist programs.

Classic Opera SimulcastOngoing
Bringing the opera to as big an audience as possible can be challenging, if not impossible. Once reserved for the elite, it is now brought for free to any classical music amateurs (upon reservation). The Yerba Buena Center for the arts has partnered with San Francisco Opera to give access to live retransmissions of performances held at the opera house. For example, on June 22, 2007 a live simulcast of Mozart's Don Giovanni was retransmitted in the auditorium of the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts with exceptional quality, thanks to high-definition broadcast standard facilities installed in the American opera house. The performance itself was of quality with the remarkable acting and chemistry between Matiusz Kwiecien (Don Giovanni) and Oren Gradus (Leporello). Of the female figures, the personality and voice of Twyla Robinson (Donna Elvira) was particularly outstanding. Check YBCA website for upcoming simulcasts.There are events happening monthly.
