Video Guide

A trip to Sydney is not complete without seeing this stunning landmark, with its surfers and lifeguards who patrol the beach every day of the week between the yellow and red flags. Bondi Beach, roughly a kilometre long, is enclosed at the north and south ends by headlands. Take a stroll along the promenade and check out the pavement life — rollerbladers, dogs with attitude and the coolest dudes around. There are numerous cafes and restaurants, as well as hostels, hotels, shops and even a small golf course. In September, the beach hosts the kite-flying Festival of the Winds.

Festival of the Winds
Sep 11th, 2009 to Sep 13th, 2009
The annual Festival of the Winds sees Bondi's brilliant blue sky filled with kites in a rainbow-colored spectrum of shapes and sizes. Creations such as giant cartoon characters, airborne buildings and flying trains compete with more traditional kites, including sleek racing models built for high-altitude speed and precision ground control. Professional kite-fliers from all over the world join in with locals and send their kites soaring.

Christmas Day on Bondi Beach
Dec 25th, 2009
Bondi Beach is where homesick Brits, together with the rest of Sydney's perpetual backpacker community, congregate to celebrate Christmas with sand and surf replacing snow, sleet and shivering temperatures. Each Christmas Day, Bondi turns itself over for a giant party complete with bands and entertainment. 'Bring your own' bucket and spade, but watch the alcohol. Due to problems in the past with rioting, since cleaned up by strong policing, most of the area is now a dry zone.

Flickerfest
Ongoing
This is Australia's premiere International Short Film Festival showcasing the best short films from Australia and around the globe. Films are screened on 35mm and 16mm film and for many the festival is the only screening they will have in Australia. The festival includes the main competitive program, a short documentary competition and an Australian competition. The opening night party is an event in itself.
