Back to Hôtel Carlton Intercontinental GRAND PALACE HOTEL WE HAVE BEEN GUESTS AT THE CARLTON FOR SIX CONSECUTIVE YEARS. THE SERVICE IS 5***** WITHOUT FAIL. THE CONCIERGES ARE THE BEST IN THE WORLD-NOTHING IS TOO MUCH TROUBLE, NO REQUEST TOO SMALL. THE REVIEWER WHO MADE SO MANY RACIAL SLURS! AND REFERRED TO "HEFTY TIPS" IS UNFAMILIAR WITH FRANCE, SIMPLY IGNORANT, DOES NOT TRAVEL GLOBALLY OR ALL THREE. TIPPING IS NOT MANDATORY AND THE SERVICE DOES NOT DECLINE ACCORDINGLY. I HAVE NEVER FELT UNSAFE FOR A MINUTE IN THE HOTEL, OR ANYWHERE IN CANNES FOR THAT MATTER. THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST FAMOUS PALACE HOTELS IN THE WORLD. APPRECIATING ITS HISTORY AND ARCHITECTURE, NO ONE FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO BE A GUEST THERE WOULD SEEK OUT THE FLAWS. THIS GRANDE DAME IS STUNNING, EVEN THOUGH SHE IS "OF A CERTAIN AGE", AS THE FRENCH DELICATELY SAY.

Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on Mar 12 2006 Biggest 5-star disappointment of my life! Not only the service is slow to follow and fulfill orders, unless one looks like a million bucks (hypocrites!), the room amenities are for their price (500-900 euro) somewhere between 3-star and 4-star hotel. This hotel seems to care only to very rich, celebrities, and oil sheiks from Arabia. Everybody else is nothing & nobody to them (at least this is the impression I got here from 6-day stay). Also this hotel claims to be recently renovated but I highly doubt it as the only new item was a new wide-screen flat TV set and computerized mini-bar (which immediately charges one's acct. upon taking anything out of its slot), Cabinets and closets were all beatenn up and scratched, with yellowing white paint. The bathroom had very poor lighting which makes unable to see one's face from each side at any given time (think the pain of shaving or make-up!). The plumbing pipes were making loud whining noise able to wake me up at any given time. Bathroom sinks had large chunks of porcelain chipped away, and it was difficult to get to toilet seat due to oversize bidet blocking the access.

Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on Jul 20 2005 OK hotel The hotel was only OK. The rooms were rather small (which is typical in Europe) and the service wasn't impressive. The views were amazing and the location was great, but overall, I wasn't impressed. Only OK.
Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on Sep 10 2004 Royal Treatment Having been in love with this hotel since first seeing it in "To Catch a Thief," I planned my entire birthday trip around staying here. I was able to get a room for an incredible rate, but it came with restrictions on # of guests. My 2 sisters ended up joining me & I was afraid that, not only would we not be able to stay together, but that there would not be another room available for the 3rd person. When I checked in, I apologetically explained the situation and the people at the registration desk not only let us all stay together, they upgraded us to a seaview room, all while wishing me a happy birthday. When we opened the door to our beautiful room, they had already sent up a bottle of champagne on ice. (No one at the desk took credit for having done that, either.) The concierge made reservations at the nicest seafood restaurant on the port. Our joke by the end of our stay was that anytime a guest at the Carlton sneezed, someone was at your door with a tissue. The level of service, all while being extremely unobtrusive, is impeccable. Our room, recently upgraded, was gorgeous, with soft peachy-yellow & oyster colored walls, 3 closets, separate toilette and shower area -- all in marble, of course. 3 robes and enough towels for 3 people were always freshly supplied each day. Our last night, we decided to stay in & look over the Mediterranean 1 more time, so we ordered room service. In the U.S., room service is always twice as much as the hotel restaurant. Here, the hotel didn't charge more than it was charging in the brasserie downstairs. The cart arrived within 20 minutes - with flowers in a vase, also. It was also removed almost instantly after placing it in the hallway, also. There is more, but I can sum it up here: I love the Carlton and everyone who works there.
