Festa de Santa Eulàlia
Feb 1st, 2010 to Feb 28th, 2010
February commemorates the patron saint of the Old Town, Santa Eulàlia, a Barcelonan martyr. During this festival, there are processions of gegants (giants — costumed people on stilts with huge heads) who dance, as well as the traditional dance of the canes (a traditional Catalan dance), and the correfoc (a person covered in fire-crackers who runs through the streets chasing people; not for the faint-hearted). The same night the City of Barcelona prizes are awarded for literature, arts, music and research. Also called the Laia, the festival is widely popular among adults and children alike.
