An architectural masterpiece, the Fillmore itself is as worth seeing as any band playing here. Stand on the main floor next to the historic stage and look up at soaring ceilings embellished with carvings and gold paint while the booming speakers rattle your bones. If you choose the tranquility of the balcony instead, sink into velvet-covered seats, sip cocktails, and eat French fries. With posters representing almost every group that has ever played here, the history of American music is on full display. Credit card acceptance varies by show. See website for concert calendar, online ticketing and more.

Jazz and All that Art on Fillmore Jul 4th, 2009 to Jul 5th, 2009
Fifty years ago, Fillmore Street was the site of some of the country's hottest jazz and blues clubs. This festival, held the first weekend in July, celebrates that piece of San Francisco history. Festival highlights include outdoor jazz performances and art exhibitions showcasing artwork by Bay Area artists. And the food is fabulous. Do not miss the bread pudding whipped up by Patisserie Delanghe (corner of Fillmore and Bush) and served in honor of the festivities.
