The Heiligengeistfeld is an open space which lies between the Reeperbahn and the Wallanlagen. It gets its name from the Heiligengeist hospital, whose grounds it was once part of. Since 1899 it has, however, been the location of most festivals in Hamburg: The Hamburger Dom takes place here, which is one of Germany's biggest public festivals. A bunker from the Second World War can be seen at the north side of the field, which is today used as a creative-centre and a studio facility for artists. The Wilhelm-Koch-Stadium, home ground of football club St.Pauli, is also located here.NYC Best Hotel Deals: 50% Savings In New York! Winterdom
Nov 6th, 2009 to Dec 6th, 2009
Brisk, Wintertime Fun
This is the biggest fun-fair in the country and it draws an astounding nine million visitors annually. The event, referred to as Sommerdom in the summer and Winterdom in the winter, combined with the springtime Frühlingsfest, is a triennial fair that has a different appeal each season. A three-cannon salute marks the beginning of the event, and early birds are greeted with free beer. The entertainment section includes music shows, fireworks on DOM Friday and other thrill filled activities, such as joy rides for children. Come by, be a part of this vibrant festival.
