Built in 1989, this theater presents a singular exterior to complement the Musée d'Art Moderne et d'Art Contemporain (MAMAC), located just across the broad walkway leading to the theater's front doors. The grey façade, punctuated by only a few openings reminiscent of medieval windows curiously integrated into the modern architecture, has won its fair share of criticism and support. Performances in the 900-seat Pierre Brasseur auditorium or the smaller Michel Simon auditorium (which seats 300) are varied, ranging from classic repertory to modern and little-known plays. Around 20 plays are performed here annually, along with occasional dance performances, concerts, or festivals. The theater program runs from October to June, and it is advisable to book ahead.
