Honeymoon Disappointment
My husband and I stayed at Shutters for the last few nights of our honeymoon in beautiful Santa Monica. We anticipated nothing but perfect luxury. However, we stayed the week prior in an equally beautiful, boutique hotel with exceptional service, location and amenities, and so our experience at Shutters became a sore disappointment. We felt the food, the suite, the location, and the lackluster service was not worth the cost because we had been paying less and receiving better. Our final day we even went back to our previous hotel for better food and service. Shutters was certainly beautiful, but guests are paying for the lifestyle branding. Equal and better quality awaits wiser consumers just up the beach... When we return, we will not spend our money at Shutters.

No View For Weddings?
If you're looking for a place with a beach view for your wedding or reception, don't go to Shutters! It may be on the beach, but when I went by appointment to view their facilities for a wedding reception, I was shown a banquet area on the ground floor, right at the beach, but the windows were "faux." When I asked about a view, I was told the windows do not open and there is NO BEACH VIEW from the reception area.

Nice but
Way overpriced. Rooms were nice enough, in fact very nice. But, to have to pay for a beach chair when spending over $400/ night? Give me a break.

great beach hotel
This is a beautiful hotel in a great location. The rooms are super comfortable and feel more like a nice vacation home than a hotel.

not the only luxury hotel on the beach in Santa Monica
I stayed at Shutters on the Beach for a wedding that was held there in 2000. While it is a nice hotel, I would recommend staying at their "sister" hotel Casa Del Mar, which is also right on the beach and much more luxurious, dramatic, and tastefully-designed in my opinion.I'm don't really like it's faux Cape Cod cottage-style. It just seems cheesy to me, having grown up in Cape Cod.The wedding here was OK. The ceremony was performed on a deck with a partial ocean view which was nice, but the function room downstairs where the reception was held afterward didn't have any windows at all, and so we could have been anywhere. Make sure you see the function rooms before booking a party here!I also had breakfast at their restaurant Pedals, and was disapointed with both the food and the inattentive service.

California Dream
Nothing is better than a view of the sunset from a clean white Shutters room. Comfy and cozy and superb. If Polo designed a hotel room for summering billionaire preppies, this is what they would come up with.
