Back to Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) More of a respite than a destination It's a nice respite from an otherwise fairly desolate downtown area. I remember the gift shop better than the art, but that likely says more about me than the museum.

MOCA focuses on the period of art that i'm most interested in (late 19th century and beyond) so it's a little surprising that it's not really my favorite museum in the area. for one thing, it's a little on the small side, or somehow the exhibitions never seem to be as comprehensive as what they have at SFMOMA. in addition, it's really kind of difficult to get out to MOCA. downtown l.a. is kind of a maze, and MOCA has a fairly confusing entrance (if you approach from the wrong side, you have to walk around a huge city block to get to the entrance). i think there's underground parking, but somehow i've always found it to be a pain to get there.
