This venue works in partnership with another nearby cinema. The two venues continue showing films in spite of ongoing financial difficulties. However, the Opera Cinema offers a more interesting range of lesser-known films. It specialises in old films or more avant-garde choices, as well as films in the original language (VO), many of which are recent releases from the independent American circuit. Films also come from more unlikely sources (Brazil, Cuba, Japan, African countries) or even closer to home. From time to time it organises specialist screenings and there are monthly festivals which cater for minority interests (children, underground, gay and lesbian cinema).
