A favorite meeting place for locals, the city's best-known pedestrian district is attractively laid out, filled with colorful stalls and lined with pleasant café terraces and restaurants. Every day is market day here, from the flower market and fruit and vegetable market (Tuesday to Sunday) to the antiques fair (Mondays) and the arts and crafts market on summer evenings. No matter what time of day it is, there's always something going on.

Marché aux fleurs
Jan 1st, 2009 to Dec 31st, 2009
6:00AM
A Little Bit of Paradise in the City
Watercolor artists can't stop painting this visually rich flower market. In the Cours Saleya, sheltered by small striped awnings, astonishing quantities of flowers are for sale. There are all kinds, from enormous, brightly colored bouquets to the extremely small and sober. Whatever you buy, the prices will certainly be better than those at a florist. A tip: at the end of the market, the merchants may be willing to bargain a little. You can also send the flowers of your choice from here to anywhere in France or abroad. In addition to cut flowers, this market offers a large selection of potted plants (scented gardenias, small lemon trees, amaryllis, geraniums and plenty more). Let yourself be swept away by the collection of nature's bounty. On Sundays the market closes at 1:30p.

Marché aux puces (antiquités)
Jan 1st, 2009 to Dec 31st, 2009
9:30AM
Pieces of the Past
The items in this marché aux puces (flea market) range from fine antiques to bric-a-brac. It's not unusual to stumble across some genuine Gallé or Müller glasswork. American costume jewelry pieces from the 1950s are found alongside authentic rings with magnificent stones. Tableware, paintings, curios and sets of silver cutlery can be purchased here, as well as rugs, African artwork, old cameras and gramophones, rosary beads and hats. Used books (including sought-after collector's editions) stuffed animals and classic toys - if you don't mind the search, there is something for everyone! Each stall-holder has a permanent spot and specialty. The market closes down for lunch, then reopens at 2:30p.
