The Archivo General de la Nación is one of a kind in Latin American architecture. Completed in 1992, the Archivo was constructed in brick, a common feature of Bogotano architecture, and is intended to blend in with the other buildings around it. A brick representation of the Rosa de los Vientos has been built into the floor, representing the achievements of the great navigators. Inside the building, documents dated back to 1550 are stored, such as papal seals and royal land grants from Colonial times, as well as many other historic and administrative documents. There are also reading rooms and spaces for changing exhibitions.
