The Amoskeag Falls, named after the word "Namoskeag" which means "good fishing place" in Pennacook, is the reason Manchester exists. The Amoskeag Manufacturing Company chose this area to set up shop because of the power of the falls, and they helped propel the company into the world market. The falls are set in the middle of the Merrimack River, and with many trees and waterfowl in the area, it makes for a very picturesque scene.
