May 2008 was a monumental month for area beer enthusiasts, for that was when Toronado came to San Diego. The bar's mother location, up north in San Francisco, is perhaps the most revered beer bar in the entire world, so the decision to open a branch in North Park was big news. Toronado San Diego is cleaner and sleeker than its grungy elder, but it offers all the familiar comforts: 40 or 50 beers on draft, impressive bottle list, rule-breaking micros, hard-to-find imports, a big dutch door, sausages, burgers and attitude.
