It is a place for all reasons
I lived in the San Diego, area most of my life (40 years). An inner peace seemed to over whelm me as I stood there in wonderment of the view. Regardless of religous beliefs it is an awsome place to get in touch with ones thoughts. Considering how much thought went into establishing Mt. Soledad as a retreat/refuge I think it would be shamefull to destroy it. It has given many people inspirations I am sure.

Great place to visit!
Mount Soledad was a great place to visit. You can get an incredible view of San Diego. I went on a clear day and could see miles of the coast up north towards Orange County. The cross looks majestic on top of the hill. It does not take that long to go there from the 5 freeway. All in all a great place to visit in San Diego.

The Soul of Our Nation
I love everything about this monument. It's peaceful and has an almost 360 degree view of San Diego, the ocean and you can even see Mexico. It's an appropriate area for a memorial to our citizens who fought in the service of our Country to keep us free.

While touring this charming, affluent beach town, be sure to take the drive east along Nautilus Street until you reach the pinnacle of the city. From this vantage point, you can see far out into the blue Pacific, north to the North County beaches and past downtown as far south as the U.S. border. This view is also spectacular at night. Sunrise services are offered here on Easter morning. There is also a war memorial dating from the Second World War. This is a no-fee area, always accessible.

A tribute to veterans
Once when my husband and I visited this site, we were honored by a "tour" by a very well-informed gentleman who was a veteran. He told us that all service men could be remembered by placks on this mountain. I wanted to buy a plack for my uncle, George Washington BlackII, who served in the Pacific during WWII as a CB. That was the Construction Batallion. He and his fellow CB's were air lifted onto islands in the Pacific where they buildt air strips. He returned to the U.S. and completed his degree in engineering and worked all his life for the Texas Highway Department. I wanted to buy a plack for his son, my cousin, George Patrick Black. Pat served in Afganistan and in Iraq. He is a member of the reserves. He served in Special Forces. I have never prayed any harder than I did for Pat when he was over there! He is home.
