Commissioned in the early 1930s it was to be a gothic structure from stone or brick but, after the Napier earthquake, the decision was made to build the cathedral out of reinforced concrete. Cecil Wood the original architect died before the drawings were complete. Successive architects attempted to deviate from his original vision, to disastrous effect. In 1992 architects, Warren and Mahoney, completed the cathedral design staying faithful to Wood's original vision.NYC Best Hotel Deals: 50% Savings In New York!
