Crooner Bing Crosby and his Hollywood cronies came together to finance this facility and racetrack in the 1930's. Since then, the attraction of horse racing has brought millions of people here where "the surf meets the turf". Racing season runs from July to September. Free jazz is played after the last race every Wednesday, and free full-scale rock concerts (often featuring hot big-name acts like Sacramento's Cake) are held in the infield every Friday following the last race.
