Great history including rats!
It was wonderful to see historic buildings used for several purposes. Walking through the three stories, you can see excavated artifacts and archives, interact with touch screens to check your family's convict past, walk through reconstructed galleys of ships and see how closely the immigrants slept in the tiny hammocks. I would definitely go back there again and again for the changing exhibit.

Early colonial history in the centre of Sydey.
Very interesting way to spend an hour (or two). Not much in the way of interactive exhibits, but there's a lot of the history stripped back (literally) and lots of the construction detail of the building on show. The exhibits give a good sense of atmosphere of the long history of the barracks. Unlike the brain-dead, barely-literate other reviewer who, no doubt, in an earlier life would have been one of the barrack's long term residents, my party found the experience interesting and worthwhile. P.S. The latte is good in the cafe!
