Andrew Lloyd Webber seems to have the Midas touch, which certainly continues with the Las Vegas production of his monumental musical Phantom of the Opera, one of the longest running shows in the history of Broadway, that has finally migrated out to 'The Strip' as the resident production at the Venetian Resort & Casino. Phantom of the Opera tells the story of a disfigured musical genius who haunts the catacombs beneath the Paris Opera House. From the time you step foot in the magnificent theater, the show transports you back into the late nineteenth century. The show begins with the Phantom tutoring a beautiful understudy by putting her under his spell as he wages a reign of terror over the new owners, and anyone else that does not obey his orders. This version of the long running Broadway play has unique operaesque vocals backed by a powerful 19-piece orchestra. The costuming and sets are every bit as extravagant and lavish as one would expect from a Las Vegas show. And to the complete delight of the audience, no corners are cut and no dime is spared. The beautiful $40 million Phantom of the Opera showroom - complete with breathtaking 'floating chandelier' - seats 1800 guests, every one with a good view of this 95-minute extravaganza. The show, abbreviated for the restless Las Vegas traveler, is directed by original director Hal Prince, and still maintains the complete storyline. Every song also remains intact. This retelling of the Beauty and the Beast myth has proved irresistible to audiences. Phantom of the Opera is the most successful theatrical endeavor of all time and has grossed more than $3 billion worldwide since its London premiere in 1986. Suitable for all ages and delightful for everyone! This is a must see while in Las Vegas!
