The multi-event area was improved and partially constructed for the triathlon events at the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics. One pre-existing structure, the "dragon gazebo," was refurbished to serve as a VIP lounge. As the venue is a temporary complex, after the Olympics are concluded, the venue will be mostly dismantled and certain parts will be reused in other ways. The rubber running track, for example, will be adopted for use by Changping schools.
