The Roman Villas Neighborhood on the hill of the Odeon was once home to Roman aristocrats who enjoyed awesome sea-views! The Villa of the Aviary's terrace is covered by the sumptuous Horses Mosaic tile and is very impressive. When the antique Odeon, a covered theater located on the top of the hill, was first excavated in 1900 almost nothing survived, except for some great remains of marble decorations and statues. At the bottom of the hill, the Roman Theater, which has been reconstructed several times since the first excavation in 1904, now hosts the Carthage International Festival each year. Up to 11,000 people could attend the plays in this theater built in the beginning of the 2nd century, reconstructed during the 3rd and the 4th centuries but destructed by the Vandals in 439. Admission is TD 7- this price includes the access to the other sites of the Archeological Park of Carthage. -N.L.
