As if the name isn't self explanatory (despite being in Dutch), Museumplein is home to a number of Amsterdam's biggest and most important museums. The Rijksmuseum, the Netherland's national and biggest museum, is in the middle of a huge renovation lasting until 2010, but still has a exhibit of masterpieces available. The Stedelijk is the place to go for modern art, while the Van Gogh Museum caters to a more specific crowd. The area also encompasses a variety of shopping opportunities as well as the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra.
