The Tithe Barn or “Grange aux Dîmes” was used not only to store the grain collected as tax from farmers, but as the site of the “Champagne Fairs” where a form of wholesale, intra-European trading went on. These fairs flourished during the 13th century, and are one of the earliest examples of a European linked economy. They served not only as an exchange of goods, but of ideas as well. Today, the barn houses displays of various merchants and activities, and visitors can take a guided audio tour to learn more about the them and the what went on here during the height of the Middle Ages.
